If you were to visit your doctor, and he/she broke the horrifying news that you had a potentially fatal and progressive disease, you would immediately want to know all of your treatment options.
If your doctor told you that the oldest and most well-known treatment option (Alcoholics Anonymous) had an 8–12% success rate but some newer but lesser-known options had a 50–80% success rate — would want to learn more about those options?
I know I would.

If you were to ask any random person on the street what to do about a drinking problem, the overwhelming majority would say Alcoholics Anonymous.
The average person is oblivious that there are other treatment options, that AA has only an 8–12% success rate, that the founder of AA used LSD, or that other options have well-documented success rates that are higher.
