My sobriety has been the definition of "non-linear."
I stopped cold turkey in my 20s, was alcohol free for over 15 years, picked up again in my 40s during my divorce, then spent 7 years relapsing and in and out of rehab.
Most people don't/won't have swings that drastic, but sobriety can be a mental roller coaster.
It's just a MUCH safer roller coaster than drinking.
