F*** Spotify
How Daniel Ek is killing young artists
Dee Snider, frontman for the iconic 80s rock band Twisted Sister, did not mince words when he recently shared his opinion of Spotify — the goliath music streaming platform.
He was quoted saying that Spotify’s founder and CEO, Daniel Ek, should be “Taken out and shot.”
Snider joins a growing list of artists who have been vocal about their disdain for Spotify, one that includes Aerosmith, R.E.M., and India Arie — as well as self-help guru Brené Brown.
In 2022, Neil Young called for all of his music to be pulled from Spotify as a matter of principle — protesting the platform’s support of The Joe Rogan Experience, which was responsible for spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccination.
Other artists followed suit, but Dee Snider’s comment, as well as others, is a direct response to Spotify’s royalty policy, which has continually come under fire for how little it pays out to artists.
I know.
I used to be one of them.
