When we recall the happiest time of our lives, most people reflect back on their childhood—a time free of commitment and responsibility — when time itself was relative.

When the summers were long and dreamlike, the spring and autumn gave way to kaleidoscopic wonder, and the holidays bristled with magic and joy.

There’s good reason for the saying “I was like a kid at Christmas.” I still say that — even though I’m not religious — because I still believe in Santa Claus.

Friends were easy to make and just as easy to hold onto. They were friends for life until the last school bell rang in June.
