I’m not sure if you read the whole article. But I would agree that…. A diagnosable condition needs a name so it can be treated… And that name is alcohol use disorder… Or AUD.
It provides a much clearer snapshot than the old black-and-white “am I an alcoholic… Or am I not one?“ The term alcoholic prevents people from addressing the early stages of alcohol abuse because it’s so easy for them to rationalize if they are not an alcoholic. They may just have a mild form of AUD
