As a straight white male I'm well aware that I was born with societal advantages here in the US. Because of this, I believe it's my responsibility to try and understand the experience of others--particularly those who are not straight white males.

With that said, it's the wealthy who are calling the shots--just like you pointed out--and not the "average straight white guy" on the street.

As someone who has been middle class my whole life, it's very difficult for me to lump myself in with the Musks, Murdochs and Trumps of the world.

Yes, I'm a straight white guy just like them--but hopefully it's not a leap to see why I would relate to the masses--regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation--a lot better than I can relate to the guys who are REALLY calling the shots.
