Married Sex Is Like Oatmeal

The pros & cons of morning mush

If you’ve been married for more than 5 years — or less, for that matter — you’ve probably noticed that sex with your partner “ain’t what it used to be.”

Whether your married sex life began like a raging inferno or a small brush fire hardly matters; it’s not as exciting as when you first got together.

If you’ve been married for more than 10 years and you still have sex regularly — good for you! (Assuming it’s with your spouse, of course).

Aaaand…

If you’ve been married for more than 20 years, and you still have sex at all, bravo!

That might not seem like a significant accomplishment to anyone in their 20s who’s never been married, but if you’ve made it that far, you know why the applause is well-earned.

On average, married couples have sex about once (1) per week, but this varies depending on age, years together, and the couple's sexual dynamic.

I use the term “dynamic” loosely.

Married sex is like eating oatmeal, watching golf, listening to Jack Johnson, or buying your clothes at Old Navy.

It’ll work — it’s just not that exciting.
