My (Drug-Free) Acid Trip

It took less than an hour out of my day

I’ve done plenty of drugs in my day. You name it, and I’ve probably tried it. I’ve never put a needle in my arm, but other than that, all bets were off. If you could snort, drink, eat, or swallow it, I would probably give it the old college try.

I now put the drugs that I’ve tried into two main categories: drugs that added something positive to my life — and drugs that did not.

If I was to add a third category it would be for alcohol, which is in a class by itself. It was fun in the beginning, until it became the drug that took everything away from me and almost ended my life.

LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, and ecstasy are drugs that I would consider beneficial — or at least a “net positive.” They all profoundly impacted me, but I want to be clear…

How I took and experienced these drugs was never the optimum in terms of safety, purity, or therapeutic benefit. They were drugs I bought on the street and did with my friends, typically at a music festival or Grateful Dead show.
