My Son Saw Yeat Last Night (WTF Is Yeat?)

Yeat (in scuba gear that doesn’t look waterproof)

Twenty-four hours ago, I had never heard of Yeat. In another twenty-four hours, there’s a good chance I will never hear of Yeat again.

The word Yeat is a popular colloquialism here in Maryland — “Y’eat?” — which loosely translates to “Have you eaten anything yet?”

While watching his lacrosse practice, my ex-wife Meghan called and told me that our 16-year-old son Dylan would attend the Yeat concert that night.

I told her I was completely comfortable with that — while frantically Googling Yeat to see who this dude was.

Full disclosure, as a musician, my first concern is that the artists my sons listen to have some sort of discernible talent — not whether or not they use profanity and talk about weed. I’ve been writing songs with foul language and drug references for decades.

My sons at Elton John

Meghan and I have already taken our boys (12 and 16) to several concerts.

They’ve seen the Rolling Stones, Queen, U2, Paul McCartney, and Elton John, and AC/DC is next on the list. They love all…
