Last Saturday night, I visited Cancun Cantina, a club I’ve haunted for quite some time. It’s in Hanover, about 20 minutes from my home in Annapolis, MD, adjacent to Baltimore Washington International Airport.

The name and the club’s facade say it all. It’s a vibrant combination of live rock and pop music, DJ and dance music, and country line dancing.

Two entrances separate the live music and line-dancing areas, which could stand alone as bustling venues. I don’t know the club's fire code capacity, but suffice it to say it can comfortably hold thousands of people.

My band, The Dave Tieff Experiment, is scheduled to play there on November 30th, so I was popping in to see the owner, Craig, who also does sound and lights when a live band plays.

I had questions about the stage plot and lighting, and he wanted to show me some of the new bells and whistles he’d acquired since I last performed there.

As I stood near the DJ booth watching the band, a young shooter girl, Carly, approached me. It turned out to be Carly’s first night, and she had a timid look that said, “Will you pleeease buy some shooters from me? I’m trying to get rid of these dang things.”
