I was skeptical — until I read it

When I first saw the title of Allen Carr’s thought-challenging book, “The Easy Way To Stop Drinking,” I smirked and rolled my eyes aggressively. I was more amused than offended, knowing what a ridiculous claim that is.
There is no easy way to stop drinking — I thought.
If there was, every problem drinker would do it.
Right?
In hindsight, I see why the title is perfect.

It was straightforward and bold enough to make me want to (have to) read the book — if only to lampoon its hogwash.
But once I began reading — still keeping an eagle eye out for bullshit — I noticed that Mr. Carr was making a lot of sense.
Allen Carr is also the author of “The Easy Way To Quit Smoking,” which has sold over 12 million copies worldwide, so I figured I owed him to continue.
This book single-handedly changed the way I looked at alcohol, alcohol abuse, and sobriety.
Bravo, Allen Carr — may you rest in peace.

We’ve been told for decades that there are two kinds of drinkers:
“Normal” drinkers — and alcoholics.
Carr goes on to explain that even so-called normal drinkers are still ingesting a flammable, highly addictive poison that damages internal organs.
Any perceived benefit of drinking alcohol is short-lived, and the shit you feel like the next day isn’t just a hangover; it’s alcohol withdrawal, and not just for “alcoholics,” but for so-called normal drinkers too.
