Every word of this hit home for me. I was finally diagnosed with a lesser known mood disorder, “cyclothymia,” which is what I like to call “bipolar light.”
I don’t have the clinical depression or the manic episodes associated with bipolar, but I had pronounced mood swings and difficulty regulating my emotions.
Probably the only reason I was properly diagnosed is that these mood swings would occur in a predictable pattern over a two month that could practically mark on the calendar.
Once I noticed the “cyclical” pattern of cyclothymia my therapist had a good idea of what it was and I was put on the proper medication.
But thank you for sharing this, as a musician, your metaphors really hit me
